Troianovskii, Mark Antonovich 

Born Dec. 19, 1907, in St. Petersburg; died Oct. 22,1967, in Moscow. Soviet cameraman, film director, and documentary screenwriter. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1965).

In 1929, Troianovskii graduated from the camera operation department of the State Technicum of Cinematography in Moscow, having worked in motion pictures from 1927. He took part in polar expeditions, during which he shot films with other cameramen, serving also as screenwriter and director. These films included Two Oceans (1932), which deals with the voyage of the icebreaker Sibiriakov, Heroes of the Arctic (1934), which is about the Cheliuskin adventure, At the North Pole (1937) and Papanin’s Crew (1938), which deal with the residents of the North Pole, and In the Center of the Arctic (1954). During the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Troianovskii directed a front-line film group. In 1946, Troianovskii and other cameramen shot the film The Youth of Our Country. In 1962 he directed and shot Moscow-Antarctica and Continent of Peace.

Troianovskii was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1947, 1948), two Orders of Lenin, five other orders, and various medals.
