Trollhättan (trôl`hĕ'tän), city (1990 pop. 40,180), Älvsborg co., S Sweden, on the Götaälv River near Lake Vänern. The Götaälv River, which falls 108 ft (33 m) in about 1 mi (1.6 km) at Trollhättan, is used to generate much hydroelectricity; the ready availability of electricity has helped to make the city a major industrial center. Manufactures include locomotives, metal goods, airplane engines, plastics, footwear, clothing, phosphates, and motor vehicles.
Trollhättan a city in western Sweden, in the Iän (county) of Älvsborg, on the Göta älv near Trollhättan Falls. Trollhättan is a major machine-building center; motor vehicles, jet aircraft engines, printing equipment, hydroturbines, marine diesel engines, and nuclear reactors are manufactured. The city has a 220-megawatt hydroelectric power plant. Trollhättan waterfalls in Sweden, on the Göta älv, near the city of Trollhättan.
