Trollhätte Canal
a navigation canal in Sweden, bypassing Trollhättan Falls and the dam of the hydroelectric power plant on the Göta älv near the city of Trollhättan. A part of the Göta Canal system, the Trollhätte Canal was built in the early 19th century and was reconstructed in the early 20th century and in the 1950’s. The difference between the upstream and down stream water levels is 32 m. The canal can accommodate vessels of up to 2,000 tons and provides a navigation route between Göteborg and the lake Vänern. The main cargoes carried on the canal include timber, pulp and paper goods, petroleum products, and building materials. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
