Trotskii, Noi Abramovich 

Born Mar. 15 (27), 1895, in St. Petersburg; died Nov. 19, 1940, in Leningrad. Soviet architect.

Trotskii studied at the Academy of Arts in Petrograd from 1913 and at the Free Studios, from which he graduated in 1920. He also studied under I. A. Fomin and took courses at the Second Polytechnic Institute in 1921. He taught at the Leningrad Academy of Arts and from 1929 taught at the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering, becoming a professor in 1939.

Working in Leningrad, Trotskii designed a number of large public buildings in the style of constructivism, including the Kirov Raion Soviet (1930–35) and the S. M. Kirov Palace of Culture (jointly with S. N. Kozak, 1930–37). His works of the 1930’s are characterized by the monumental use of the classical orders, for example, the administrative building on Moskovskii Prospekt (1937–40).
