Troup, George Michael, 1780–1856, governor of Georgia (1823–27), b. McIntosh Bluff, on the Tombigbee River, Ala. (then a part of Georgia). As governor, he was an extreme supporter of states' rights. The final removal of the Creek Creek, Native North American confederacy. The peoples forming it were mostly of the Muskogean branch of the Hokan-Siouan linguistic stock (see Native American languages ).

 from Georgia and the cession of their lands to the state was due in great part to his belligerent and uncompromising attitude toward both the Native Americans and the federal government. He was also a U.S. Representative (1807–15) and Senator (1816–18, 1829–33).
