Trouton's rule [′trau̇t·ənz ‚rül]
(physical chemistry)
An approximation rule for the derivation of molar heats of vaporization of normal liquids at their boiling points.
(thermodynamics)
The rule that, for a nonassociated liquid, the latent heat of vaporization in calories is equal to approximately 22 times the normal boiling point on the Kelvin scale.
