Trubnikov, Kuz’ma Petrovich 

Born Oct. 15 (27), 1888, in the village of Gatishcha, in what is now Volovo Raion, Lipetsk Oblast; died Jan. 16,1974, in Moscow. Soviet military commander. Colonel general (1945). Member of the CPSU from 1938.

Trubnikov graduated from an ensigns’ school in 1915. He fought in World War I and served as a company commander and head of a regimental training detachment. In 1918, Trubnikov joined the Red Army. In the Civil War (1918–20) he commanded a regiment and a rifle brigade. He completed the Vystrel advanced courses in 1925 and the Higher Academic Courses at the M. V. Frunze Military Academy in 1927.

A notable figure of the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Trubni-kov was commander of a rifle division in 1941–42, deputy commander of the Sixteenth Army from June to September 1942, deputy commander of the Don and Central fronts from 1942 to 1943, commander of the Tenth Guards Army on the Western Front from May to September 1943, and assistant and deputy commander of the Byelorussian Front and the First and Second Byelorussian fronts from 1943 to 1945.

After the war, Trubnikov was deputy and assistant commander in chief of the Northern Group of Troops from 1945 to 1950. He retired in 1951. Trubnikov was awarded two Orders of Lenin, five Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov First and Second Class, the Order of Suvorov Second Class, two Orders of the Red Star, and various medals, as well as foreign orders and medals,
