    0.01 sec.
Tscherning, Anton Frederik

Born Dec. 12, 1795, in Frederiksvaerk, on Sjaelland (Zealand) Island; died June 29,1874, in Copenhagen. Danish state and political figure.

The son of a colonel, Tscherning took part in the Napoleonic Wars as a lieutenant. He taught at the Higher Military School in Copenhagen from 1830 to 1833. An opponent of absolutism and a left-wing liberal, Tscherning was chairman of the bourgeoisdemocratic Society of Friends of the Peasant from 1846 to 1856. From March to November 1848 he was minister of war and held the rank of colonel; he organized the Danish Army, which took part in the Danish-Prussian War (German-Danish War) of 1848–50.

In the period from 1849 to 1866, Tscherning was a deputy to the Constituent Assembly and the Folketing. Tscherning opposed the reactionary revision of the constitution in 1866.
