Tsereteli, Zurab Konstantinovich
Born Jan. 4, 1934, in the city of Tsukulidze. Soviet artist. Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1965. Tsereteli studied at the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi from 1952 to 1959. His decorative monumental works include panels, mosaics, stained-glass windows, and whimsically decorative sculpture. Artistically and compositionally integrated with the architecture and surrounding environment, they are distinguished for their richness of color and form and use of diverse materials. Tsereteli’s designs for the ornamentation of health resorts in the Georgian SSR embody the unique beauty of the southern landscape. Tsereteli has also worked as a book and magazine illustrator and stage designer. Tsereteli’s principal works include mosaics executed in Tbilisi and Ul’ianovsk and designs for a children’s center in Adler (1973), the motor-coach terminal in Tbilisi (1973), the health resort complex in Titsunda (1967), and the Soviet embassy in Brazil (1975).
