Solihull (sōlĭhŭl`), city and metropolitan district (1991 pop. 195,100), central England, mainly a residential suburb of Birmingham. Automobiles, chemicals, and tools are manufactured. The 13th-century Church of St. Alphege has a 168-ft (51-m) spire in which 10 bells still chime the curfew every evening. There is a 16th-century boys school in Solihull. Packwood House (15th cent.) and Malvern House (18th cent.) are architecturally notable.
