Tukums 

a city and the administrative center of Tukums Raion, Latvian SSR. Population, 17,000 (1975). Tukums is located 65 km west of Riga and is a railroad junction for lines to Riga, Jelgava, and Ventspils. Industry is represented by a repair shop for construction and road-building machinery, a branch of the Jelgavsel’mash Plant, a furniture branch of the Vulkan Combine in Kuldïga, a garment branch of the Latvia Clothing Production Association in Riga, a plant for producing yeast enzymes, a milk plant, and a meat-packing plant. Tukums has a museum of art and local lore.
