tuner

An electronic part of a radio or TV that locks on to a selected carrier frequency (station, channel) and filters out the audio and video signals for amplification and display.


tuner [′tü·nər]
(electronics)
The portion of a receiver that contains circuits which can be tuned to accept the carrier frequency of the alternating current supplied to the primary, thereby causing the secondary voltage to build up to higher values than would otherwise be obtained.
