Turana
a mountain range in the northern Amur Region, on the border between Amur Oblast and Khabarovsk Krai, RSFSR. In the southwest it divides the basins of the Selemdzha and Bureia Rivers; in the northeast it is dissected by the valleys of Bureia’s tributaries. Elevations range from 1,000 m in the southwest to 1,861 m (Mount Srednie Nanaki) in the northeast. The Turana Range is about 300 km long It is composed of granites and meta-morphic rocks. The crests are massive and gently rounded. Taigas of larch and occasionally fir and spruce cover the slopes, and dwarf cedar grows above 700–900 m. Tracts of deciduous forests are found along the southern foot and in the valleys. Part of the Baikal-Amur Railroad (construction begun in 1976) passes through the Turana Range.
