turbopump [′tər·bō‚pəmp]
(mechanical engineering)
A pump that is powered by a turbine.

Turbopump

a unit in the system that supplies the liquid components of rocket propellant or the working fluid in a liquid-propellant rocket engine or the liquid fuel in certain aircraft engines, for example, ramjet engines. A turbopump consists of one or more pumps and the aircraft gas turbine that drives them. The working fluid for the turbine of a turbopump is usually formed in gas or steam-and-gas generators. Liquid-propellant rocket engines with a turbopump are used in the launch vehicles of spacecraft and in intercontinental missiles.
