Twitty, Victor C. (Chandler) (1901–67) zoologist; born near Loogootee, Ind. He taught zoology at Yale (1929–31), became a National Research Council fellow at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute, Berlin (1931–32), then joined Stanford University (1932–63). During his career investigating the biology of salamanders, he made major contributions to studies of their skin pigmentation and organ and tissue differentiation, discovered new species of the western newt, and demonstrated homing behavior in these animals using artificial hybridization.
