Twombly, Cy (1928– ) painter; born in Lexington, Va. He studied at the Boston Museum School (1948–49), and at the Black Mountain College, N.C., with Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell (1951–52). He traveled in Europe and Africa (1952–53) before settling permanently in Italy (1957), and is known for his calligraphic–like work, as in Leda and the Swan (1961).
