Born 1751; died 1796. Burmese poet.

U To earned a place in the history of Burmese literature as the author of the epic The Poem of Rama (1784). Based on the Indian Ramayana, the work is imbued with a national spirit; the epic has enjoyed enormous popularity in Burma. The Poem of Rama includes a number of scenes satirizing aspects of 18th-century Burmese society.
