(Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) A messaging function in GSM cellphones. Unlike regular text messages, USSD messages travel over GSM signaling channels and are used to query information and trigger services. See CAMEL.

A new innovation for using government mobile services via USSD was launched by DNRD at Gitex last week as an extension to M-Visa.
mChek on Airtel is already available on various access mediums like SMS, USSD , J2ME and SIM application and WAP.
Using the USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), GSM mobile users will be able to select the desired banking service from a menu on their mobile phone.
