Barkova, Ul’iana Spiridonovna 

Born Dec. 21, 1905 (Jan. 3, 1906), in the village of Viatchanovo in Iaroslav Province. Brigade leader of the cattle-breeding farm on the Karavaevo Sovkhoz, Kostroma Oblast; twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1948 and 1951). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

From 1917 to 1925, Barkova worked as an agricultural worker; from 1925 to 1943, as a milkmaid; and after 1943, as a brigade leader at the Karavaevo Sovkhoz. In 1935 she completed the likbez (liquidation of illiteracy) courses. Barkova was a member of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions (1937–40). At the sovkhoz in 1947 she obtained 6,047 kg of milk containing 224 kg of butterfat from each of 16 cows; in 1948, 6,277 kg of milk containing 236 kg of butterfat from each of 24 cows; in 1949, 6,404 kg of milk containing 237 kg of butterfat from each of 56 cows; and in 1950, 7,386 kg of milk containing 262 kg of butterfat from each of 40 cows.

Since December 1961, Barkova has been the recipient of a special pension. She was awarded four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals, as well as a large gold medal and other medals at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.
