UltimateTV
A digital video recorder (DVR) service from Microsoft (www.ultimatetv.com) that adds digital video recording to the DIRECTV satellite service. In 2002, Microsoft discontinued further enhancements to the product. However, in 2007, a service update was made available to existing subscribers via an automatic satellite download. The update was necessary to maintain programming compatibility with DIRECTV. See DVR.

TiVo and its competitors, ReplayTV and UltimateTV, are part of a recent technology trend allowing viewers--whether connected to basic and digital cable, satellite or analog systems--to record hours of programs that can be watched immediately or later.
The enhancements will only be available through interactive television systems such as Microsoft WebTV Plus and UltimateTV services.
Prior to his work at Google, Horowitz spent almost nine years at Microsoft in leadership roles developing and shipping a range of consumer products including IPTV, Windows Media Center Edition, UltimateTV, Dishplayer, and WebTV.
