Umm Qasr

Umm Qasr (m käs`ə) town, Basra prov., S Iraq, S of Basra on the Kuwait border. Located on an arm of the Persian Gulf, it is Iraq's second largest port, with deepwater facilities.

The projects approved by the council included 11 in the electricity sector, most prominently a project to transfer electricity from Sharq al-Basra Station to the center of the city and from Umm Qasr district to al-Faw," the head of the development and reconstruction committee in the council, Mustafa Atiya Rasn, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
