unconventional warfare [¦ən·kən′ven·chən·əl ′wȯr‚fer]
(ordnance)
A type of warfare that includes the interrelated fields of guerrilla warfare, evasion and escape, and subversion, in which operations are conducted within enemy or enemy-controlled territory by predominantly indigenous personnel, usually supported and directed in varying degrees by an external source.
