 in full Robert William Unser

(born Feb. 20, 1934, Albuquerque, N.M., U.S.) U.S. automobile-racing driver. Unser, who was born into a family of drivers, first raced in 1949, and early in his career he won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. In 1963 he made his debut at the Indianapolis 500, an event he won in 1968, 1975, and 1981. He was also victorious in various U.S. Automobile Club races. Unser retired from racing in 1982. His brother Al Unser was also a noted driver.
