An inflammatory process occurring in the kidney, ureter, bladder, or adjacent structures that occurs when microorganisms (usuallyEscherichia coli) enter through the urethra.

Earlier work showed that during the first year of life, uncircumcised boys have 10 to 20 times as many urinary tract infections as circumcised boys do.
Problems included: lack of transport; inadequate staff numbers; longer-than-expected travel times resulting in food and water rationing; failure to take medications, oxygen canisters and incontinence supplies; and dehydration, pressure sores and travel-related illnesses, such as urinary tract infections.
ProQuin(R) XR (ciprofloxacin hydrochloride) once daily, extended-release tablets have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
