Urmi

 

a river in Khabarovsk Krai, RSFSR; one of the rivers that combine to form the Tunguska River (a tributary of the Amur). The Urmi is 458 km long and drains an area of 15,000 sq km. It originates on the southern slopes of the Badzhal’skii Range and flows along the Bureia Range; its lower course lies in the Lower Amur Lowland. The river is fed primarily by rain. The mean flow rate 204 km from the mouth is 170 cu m per sec. The river freezes over in November, and the ice breaks up in late April or early May. A stretch of the river 260 km long is used for timber flotation. The Urmi is navigable by small craft.
