Ustrushana
(also Usrushana), an early medieval region in Central Asia. Ancient Ustrushana was part of Sogdiana. It was an independent kingdom from the fifth century to 822, when it was conquered by the Arabs. Its ruler (afshin) Kavus converted to Islam. Ustrushana became part of the Samanid state in 893. Its capital, Bunjikat, was located near the present-day village of Shakhristan in Ura-Tiube Raion, Leninabad Oblast, Tadzhik SSR, where the palace of the afshins, containing fragments of paintings and woodcarvings, was excavated.
