Ushuaia ( swī`ä), city (1991 pop. 29,452), Tierra del Fuego Territory, S Argentina, a port on the Beagle Canal, on Ushuaia Bay. Settled in the 1870s by English missionaries, it was taken over by Argentine naval forces in 1884.
