(Visual Basic RUNtime [xxx=version #].DLL) The Visual Basic runtime module. A Visual Basic application prior to VB 5 is compiled into an intermediate "bytecode" language, which the runtime module turns into machine language on the fly. It also contains many functions called for by the application. VBRUNxxx.DLL or MSVBVMxx.DLL (VB 5 and higher) are similar to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) in the Java world, although as of VB 5, native .EXE files can also be created.
