virtual IP address

An IP address that is shared among multiple domain names or multiple servers. Virtual IP addressing enables one IP address to be used when multiple websites are hosted on one server. Virtual IPs are also widely used to balance incoming traffic to multiple servers. The incoming packets are sent to the virtual IP and forwarded to the real IP address of the server targeted to respond.

Note that the Source VIP Address field is included in the IP header and that the Source IP Address field is included in the VIP header to ensure backward compatibility with IP.
The VIP address of Host:A-a remains unchanged while a temporary IP address is assigned to the host by, say, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) [3].
VIP is a protocol which resolves a VIP address into a corresponding IP address.
Even if an obsolete AMT entry delivers a VIP packet to an incorrect host, the receiving host can detect the misdelivery because the destination VIP address of the packet does not match the VIP address of the host.
Additionally, since the Source IP Address field of the VIP packet holds the VIP address of the source VIP host instead of its temporary IP address, the destination IP host recognizes the correct source address of the VIP packet.
