vPro

Also found in: Acronyms, Wikipedia 0.06 sec.

vPro

An x86 chip platform from Intel that supports hardware-based remote systems management. It comprises a Core 2 Duo CPU and a chipset that features Intel's Active Management Technology (AMT). Using a third-party management console such as OpenView, LANdesk or Altiris, system administrators can wake up, inventory, diagnose, repair and push security updates and patches to all vPro systems in the network.

Centrino Pro
When vPro is used in a laptop computer, it falls under the Centrino Pro branding (see Centrino).

Active Management Technology (AMT)
The AMT chipset provides an out-of-band communications channel that works no matter what functioning or non-functioning state the OS is in. It provides a non-volatile memory for critical system data that cannot be compromised, and it has the ability to isolate a PC from the network if threatened or infected. See x86 chip platform and Intel Core.

Hilversum's Media Park can boast at least two ironically wacky contributions by acronym-loving funsters MVRDV (the VPRO headquarters, AR March 1999, and the RVU building), but van Velsen's scheme is more thoughtful and restrained, as befits its role as the sober media monitor.
