VUI
(Voice User Interface) A voice-controlled application on a computer, PDA or smartphone. A VUI is more sophisticated than an interactive voice response (IVR) system. It implies a wide range of commands rather than just voicing "yes" or "no." Contrast with GUI.

In early 2000, Lernout & Hauspie introduced this prototype of a large vocabulary speech recognition system for a Linux PDA. This device provides keyboard-free operation for listening to and responding to e-mail as well as checking stock quotes and making purchases.
