Vacaville (văk`əvĭl, vä`–), city (1990 pop. 71,479), Solano co., central Calif. about 30 mi (48 km) from Sacramento, in a farm and orchard area; inc. 1892. Food products are made in the city, and fruits and vegetables are packed. Vacaville has grown tremendously in size as the central California area has boomed; its population grew almost fourfold between 1970 and 1990. A state prison medical facility is located there.
