(chemical engineering)
Liquid distillation under reduced (less than atmospheric) pressure; used to lower boiling temperatures and lessen the risk of thermal degradation during distillation. Also known as reduced-pressure distillation.

If it meets our criteria, it goes into our feedstock--which goes through an oil-water separation and vacuum distillation that pulls out contaminants in what we call an asphalt plug.
This project includes the revamp of the hydrocracker unit, significant modifications to the internals of the vacuum distillation and crude distillation units, the installation of additional heat exchangers, and modifications to other process units and associated offsites and utilities.
