SNOBOL(StriNg Oriented symBOlic Language) One of the first list processing languages, which was developed by Ralph Griswold and associates at Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ. It was used for text processing and compiler development. The first version was introduced in 1963, with later versions throughout the 1960s. SNOBOL [′snō‚bȯl] (computer science) A computer programming language that has significant applications in program compilation and generation of symbolic equations. Derived from String-Oriented-Symbolic Language.
