Vares

Vareš 

a city in Yugoslavia, in Bosnia. Population, 8,000 (1967). It is the largest center in the country for the mining of iron ore (about 1.6 million tons in 1967), sent chiefly to Zenica, with which Vares is connected by a railroad branch. There is also a metallurgical plant.
