Vegetative Grafting
a method of overcoming the noncrossability of plants in distant hybridization. It involves grafting the scions of one plant onto the crown of another (stock). After a few years the pollen developing in the flowers of the scion is able to germinate in the ovary of the flowers of the stock. The term “vegetative grafting” was introduced by I. V. Michurin, who used the method to breed more than 100 new plant varieties. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
