Veimarn, Boris Vladimirovich
Born Oct. 26 (Nov. 8), 1909, in Sevastopol’. Soviet art historian and art critic. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1968). Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1949). Member of the CPSU since 1960. Veimarn’s field of study is the fine arts of the Soviet and non-Soviet East. His major works are The Art of Middle Asia (1940), The Architectural and Decorative Art of Uzbekistan (1948), Ural Tansykbaev (1958), and The Ideological Unity and National Diversity of Soviet Art (1962). As author and editor, he took part in the preparation of the six-volume General History of the Arts (1956-66). Since 1962, Veimarn has been a member of the editorial board and a writer on the encyclopedia The Art of the Countries and Peoples of the World. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
