Veii (vē`ī), ancient city of Etruria, 11 mi (18 km) NW of Rome, Italy. One of the most powerful member cities of the Etruscan League, it was constantly at war with Rome. It fell (c.396 B.C.) to the Roman army under Camillus after a 10-year siege.
