Venedikt Maikotin

    0.01 sec.
Maikotin, Venedikt Aleksandrovich

Born in 1867 in Gatchina; died in 1937 in Prague. Russian historian and publicist.

After graduating from the University of St. Petersburg, Miakotin lectured at the Aleksandrovskii Lycée from 1891 to 1901. In 1893 he began contributing to the journal Russkoe Bogatstvo (Russian Wealth), joining its editorial board in 1904. In 1905–06 he was active in the Union of Unions, a bourgeois-intelligentsia organization, and was one of the organizers and leaders of the Popular Socialists. He was hostile to the October Revolution of 1917, and in 1918 he helped found the Union for the Rebirth of Russia, a White Guard organization. He emigrated in 1918. Miakotin’s principal historical works deal with Russia, the Ukraine, and Poland in the 17th and 18th centuries. Based on valuable archival material, these works reflect a liberal bourgeois approach.
