To attain such resolution, astronomers rely on a technique called very long baseline interferometry, which combines images from a group of widely separated telescopes to generate a single, high-resolution image. Radio astronomers will also use the new UltraLight capabilities for distributed real-time correlation and processing of Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) data using global Grid-based computing facilities. That launch vehicle, scheduled for completion in early 1995, may find its first use in a Very Long Baseline Interferometry experiment planned for later that year. |
