Vetchinkin, Vladimir Petrovich 

Born June 17 (29), 1888, in Kutno, now Poland; died Mar. 6, 1950, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of aerodynamics, aircraft design, and wind power engineering; doctor of technical sciences. Professor (from 1927). Honored Scientist and Engineer of the RSFSR (1946).

In 1915, Vetchinkin graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School (MVTU). He was the closest student of N. E. Zhukovskii and continued his work. He was one of the organizers of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI). Vetchinkin carried on scientific (in TsAGI) and pedagogical (in MVTU and other institutions) work for many years on the theory and calculation of propellers, the dynamics of flight, the durability of airplanes, the use of wind energy, the construction of wind-powered electrical stations, and so on. Vetchinkin published about 150 scientific works. He won the State Prize of the USSR in 1943 and was awarded three orders.
