Veterinary-Sanitary Inspection

    0.01 sec.
Veterinary-Sanitary Inspection

a system of measures that ensures the veterinary-sanitary well-being of the country. Its goal is the protection of humans from disease common to them and animals and the protection of livestock raising from loss in cases of disruption of conditions for maintaining animals, as well as from losses caused by disease. Veterinary-sanitary inspection includes veterinary services to meat-processing enterprises, monitoring of the products of animal and plant origin that are supplied to kolkhoz markets, inspection of shipments of animals, and inspection of the exporting and importing of animals and animal products.

Veterinary-sanitary inspection is performed daily by all veterinary institutions, specialized meat-and-dairy and food inspection stations, laboratories for testing raw leather for anthrax, border protection and inspection stations, and so on. The principal regulations on veterinary-sanitary inspection are set forth in the Veterinary Code of the USSR. New recommendations relating to veterinary-sanitary inspection are developed by the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Sanitation, zone scientific research institutes, and veterinary institutes and departments. The Main Veterinary Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR is the central directing body for veterinary-sanitary inspection in the country; its directives are obligatory for all departments and branches of the economy.
