, Viña del Mar is one of the most famous and popular resort cities in South America. There are luxurious hotels, villas, clubs, and gardens and fine beaches. The city has several industries—textile mills, paint factories, and food processing plants. It is also a market for the agricultural products of the region. A naval base is there. The city was founded in 1874.

Viña del Mar

City (pop., 2002 prelim: 330,000), central Chile. It is a residential suburb of Valparaíso. Located on the Pacific Ocean, Viña del Mar is a resort city with a gaming casino, beaches, museums, and theatres. Army and navy garrisons and petroleum depots add to the city's economic base.
