Vieytes, Hipólito

    0.02 sec.
Vieytes, Hipólito

Born 1762, in Buenos Aires; died there in 1815. Argentine political leader, economist, and historian.

During the years 1802-07, Vieytes published the first Argentine economic journal, in which he sharply condemned Spanish colonial domination. He actively fought against the British intervention of 1806-07. In 1810-13, during the rule of the patriotic revolutionary governments, Vieytes was president of the court, a member of the General Constituent Assembly of 1813, and chief intendant of the army. His political ideal was a centralized republic with a revolutionary dictatorship, directed against the feudal anarchy of the provinces.

WORKS

Antecedentes economicos de la revolucion de mayo. Buenos Aires, 1956.
