Galitskii, Viktor Mikhailovich
Born Sept. 8, 1924, in Moscow. Soviet physicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1955. Galitskii graduated from the Moscow Physical Engineering Institute in 1949. From 1949 to 1962, he was affiliated with the Institute of Atomic Energy; he rejoined the institute in 1965. From 1962 to 1965, he was on the staff of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He joined the teaching staff at the Moscow Physical Engineering Institute in 1949, becoming a professor in 1965. Galitskii’s main works deal with the application of the methods of quantum field theory to the many-body problem. Galitskii studied the effect of plasma oscillations on the kinetic properties of a magnetized plasma and on the dielectric properties of a hightemperature plasma. He also investigated the effect of atomic collisions on the optical properties of resonant media. Galitskii has been awarded three orders and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
