Sysoev, Viktor Sergeevich 

Born Jan. 26 (Feb. 8), 1915, in the village of Barakovo, in what is now Rybnoe Raion, Riazan’ Oblast. Soviet admiral (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1942.

Sysoev joined the Soviet Navy in 1937. He graduated from the M. V. Frunze Naval School in 1939, from officers’ staff courses in 1945, and from the Naval Academy in 1952. During the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), he served on destroyers of the Black Sea Fleet and, from May to September 1944, of the Northern Fleet. After the war, Sysoev was commander of a destroyer and a cruiser; in 1955 he became chief of staff of a large unit of the Black Sea Fleet. From 1960 to 1965 he was a subdepartment head at the Naval Academy. From 1965 to 1968, Sysoev was the first deputy commander, and from December 1968 through March 1974, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet. In March 1974 he became head of the Naval Academy.

Sysoev was a deputy to the eighth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded the order of the October Revolution, three orders of the Red Banner, two orders of the Red Star, and various medals.
