Teleuke, Viktor Gavrilovich
Born Jan. 19, 1933, in the village of Chepeleutsy, in what is now Brichany Raion. Soviet Moldavian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1964. Teleuke graduated from Kishinev Pedagogical Institute in 1958. His collection of lyric verse concerned with the topical questions of modern life include High Water (1960), From the Four Corners of the World (1964), Verses (1966), Deer Island (1966; awarded the B. Glavan Prize of the Moldavian SSR), Taming of the Fire (1971), and Heroism (1973). Teleuke has also translated the works of J. Rainis, Byron, and P. P. Ershov.
