Tiagunenko, Viktor Leonidovich 

Born Jan. 1, 1920, in Vikneno, Kirovograd Oblast, Ukrainian SSR; died Mar. 4, 1975, in Moscow. Soviet economist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Member of the CPSU from 1942.

Tiagunenko graduated from the V. I. Lenin Military Political Academy in 1951. From 1954 to 1957 he taught political economy in the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy, and from 1957 he taught at the Institute of World Economics and International Relations. His principal works dealt with the economics and politics of developing countries—the revolutions for national liberation, the struggle for economic independence, the crisis of neocolonialism, the governing principles and specific features of noncapitalist development, and the role of underdeveloped countries in the international economic system of production specialization by country. Tiagunenko also edited the monographs Classes and Class Struggle in the Developing Countries (vols. 1–3, 1967–68) and The Developing Countries: Regularities, Tendencies, Perspectives (1974). Tiagunenko was awarded two orders and various medals.
