Široký, Viliam
Born May 31, 1902, in Bratislava; died Oct. 6, 1971, in Prague. Czechoslovak party and state figure. Member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from 1921. The son of a railroad worker, Široký was a member of the Central Committee of the CPC from 1929 to 1963, and from 1948 to 1963 he was a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee. From 1945 to 1953 he was deputy prime minister of Czechoslovakia, and from 1950 to 1953 he served concurrently as minister of foreign affairs.
