Vil’kitskii Strait
a strait between the Taimyr peninsula and Severnaia Zemlia, linking the Kara and Laptev seas. The strait is approximately 130 km long. It is 56 km at its narrowest point and 210 m at its deepest. Ice floes are seen throughout the year. The strait was discovered in 1914 by a hydrographic expedition on the ships Taimyr and Vaigach and was named in honor of the Russian hydrographer B. A.
